Friday the Panthers took on the Cumberland Valley Eagles at home, but home team advantage wasn’t enough and the Panthers lost to the Eagles 28-17.
Senior Terrance Carter, 24 started off the first quarter with a gain of about three yards, but the Panthers couldn’t get the ball moving and lost the ball on a fourth down. Senior Jordan Ingram 63 sacked the Eagles quarterback to bring third down and followed with a fourth down. Panthers lost the ball on a holding call and the Eagles scored their first touchdown of the night with 29.1 seconds to go in the first quarter, followed by an extra point. Carter tried to get the Panthers started again with a gain of about five yards before the quarter ended.
In the second quarter sophomore quarterback Shannon Valenti, 5 gained a first down followed by 17 yards from senior Jeremiah Dadeboe, 2, but a pass was intercepted by the Eagles at 9:40 in the second quarter. A fumble recovery by Ingram at 6:41, then a 30 yard gain from sophomore Sandy Paulino, 80, led to the 31 yard touchdown from Carter at 5:54 and the extra point from sophomore Carter Luckenbaugh, 31. After a fourth down the Panthers had a four yard run from Valenti, 10 yards from senior Pearson Hinkle, 32, and six yards from Carter, a pass was intercepted by the Eagles with 1:26 left in the half. Panthers received the ball back and gained about nine yards from Valenti, but a delay of game caused a loss and they had to move back to the 35 yard line. After efforts from Hinkle of about a six yard gain, the ball was lost on a fourth down to end the half.
After much back and forth from both teams, Luckenbaugh scored a field goal to put the Panthers ahead 10-7. But the lead was short lived when the Eagles came back and scored a touchdown at 4:08 in the third quarter, with the extra point. Once the Panthers had the ball back efforts from Carter gained 29 yards. Four yards from Valenti caused the Panthers end the third quarter on a fourth down.
The Eagles proved that they weren’t done yet though, and scored a touchdown with the extra point at 9:00 in the fourth quarter. They intercepted a pass from the Panthers and scored another touchdown with the extra point at 7:08 in the fourth quarter. Central wasn’t ready to give up yet, and achieved a 14 yard gain from sophomore Edward Trippet, 14, and five yards from Valenti. But they couldn’t keep it moving and lost the ball on a fourth down. After a fourth down from the Eagles, Senior Tre Urquhart-Ridley, 1, gained seven yards which led to a 50-yard catch from sophomore Noreaga Goff, 28, a nine yard gain from Hinkle and two yards from Goff. The Panthers scored a touchdown along with the extra point with 31 seconds left to go, but it wasn’t enough as the final score was Central 17, Eagles 28.
