It’s time for everyone to try coding! The Hour Of Code debuted last year. Worldwide, the efforts reached over 42 million students. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. The 2014 event will be the largest learning event in history (video). The goal is for 100 million people to try coding. During the week of Dec. 8 – 14 (Computer Science Education Week), Central York High School students are encouraged to try coding activities during flex. Younger students will try activities at different times based on their building schedules.

This year, Central York High School students are helping younger students try coding. High school iTeam members worked with elementary administrators to create a video for teachers to show elementary students before they try Hour of Code activities.

Use your iPad or computer browser to navigate to Hour Of Code and click ‘Try It’. Select any activity to try coding. There are websites, apps, and even activities that don’t require a device. Several other websites have coding activities, and our Panther Programmers website will have links to many of these sites:

Code.org -a non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color. Made With Code -an initiative to champion creativity, girls, and code, all at once.
