When a person thinks of a dance at Central, they usually think of Homecoming or Prom. However, there is a new dance that has arrived; a dance that will take place in the middle of winter. One that will allow students to have fun without spending hundreds on dresses and tuxedos. An event that will look like a winter wonderland. This occasion is Snowcoming.
The idea for a winter dance has been talked about for many years by Central’s Student Council. “Past years’ councils hadn’t wanted to take on the challenge. So I, along with the other officers, came up with the idea [of Snowcoming],” said Nick Swanson, Student Council President. The idea of a winter formal was thought of at a summer meeting at Swanson’s house. The plans started to solidify this past October, and the name was picked at an after school meeting.
Snowcoming will be held in the school’s cafeteria, which will be decorated in a winter wonderland theme. The cafeteria and dance floor will be covered in blues, whites and greys. “Our goal is to create a school dance environment that looks just like it does on TV and the movies,” Swanson said.
As students have started to hear more about Snowcoming, the most frequently asked question they have has to do with attire and what is appropriate to wear to this new event. The dress code for the dance will be semi-formal. For example, guys can wear a nice shirt and tie with a pair of khakis, while girls can wear a tasteful party dress or skirt. The goal is for students to be able to wear something you already have and not to have to go out and spend a lot of money on a new outfit, according to Swanson.
Snowcoming will be held February 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold during lunches the week of January 26 for $5 and the week of the dance (February 2) for $7. All students are encouraged to go to the dance, which will feature dancing, music and food and drink sales. Attendees can go with friends or with a date, and Dance Guest Agreement forms are available in the main office for non-Central guests.
