Past to the present; TV and Movie reboots and spinoffs

Many TV shows and movies from the early 2000s, ‘90s that were enjoyed by previous generations, are now getting a chance to make their comeback.

With the late ‘90s and early 2000s, Nickelodeon said they would be rebooting shows like “Hey Arnold!” and “Rugrats”. Cartoon Network is producing new episodes of “The Powerpuff Girls” and “Ben 10” also. Disney is said to be making several movie spinoffs, such as “Lion Guard” (originally “Lion King”), “Jungle Book”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Star Wars” and “Ducktales”. The reboot that has been getting the most attention is “Fuller House” (originally called “Full House”), which will be a Netflix series. There are also shows and movie that have already been released for reboots.

From the millennial childhood, there has been several released already, but not many since reboots and spinoffs have just been popularly announced until this year. Disney released a live-action cast of “Cinderella,” still with the same script and storyline as the original. “Pan,” another “Peter Pan”, is coming soon to theaters as another live action cast. “Star Wars” has already been made into several animated cartoon series on Disney XD, including all the same characters. Even the generation X is getting their shows and movies remade.

From Generation X, there are also many movies being spun off, but not many TV shows. “IT” is coming back to haunt again in two parts this time. “Ghost Busters” is coming back, but with an all female cast. Universal is said to be working on another edition of ‘The Mummy.” There have been several editions of movies and TV shows already remade.

What has been rebooted already? “Jurassic Park” had a spinoff released this past summer called “Jurassic World,” which drew in $1.65B. “Heroes” are being rebooted into “Heroes Reborn,” which is airing this fall. Also, who can forget TV’s favorite couple from the 90’s, Cory and Topanga, from Boy Meets World --which was rebooted into Girl Meets World on Disney?

Students at Central York High School had things to say about the reboots and spinoffs. Central York High School junior, Nathan Roberts, said, “Why fix something that isn’t broken?” when asked what he thought of the Ducktales reboot. Some students may like the idea of reboots and spinoffs, but others didn’t. “Stop ruining our childhood,” Roberts said. “I love them [reboots],” said Central York High School, Josh Ferguson. “Disney is really good at it.”

“Come up with new ideas,” Roberts said. Fans are looking forward to the remakes, but sometimes get let down by some. Is Hollywood running out of ideas or just listening to their fans? What is the next plans Hollywood for Hollywood?
