Girls' soccer team looks to defeat Dallastown
Central York and Dallastown: a long legacy of rivalry in girls soccer. Both teams have shared the division championship position for a few years. It has gone back and forth between the the past years. “In our county league, I have to say Dallastown is the toughest because they are undefeated in the league just like us and have some really good players,” said a senior, Kennedy Little, who plays a defensive position, center back. A goal this year for Central is to beat Dallastown and win the division championship. The team has already faced off against Dallastown once this season and lost 2-0. With a league record of 6-3 and a division record of 4-1, the team has also taken losses to Manheim Township and Governor Mifflin. Beating Dallastown in their second game would help weaken their league record of 6-1 and division record of 5-1. A way to help win against Dallastown may be team dynamics. “The team this year gets along great. Everyone is friends with each other off and on the field and that transitions very nicely onto the field and into our play,” said junior Lynsey Nicholas, who is a forward and center midfielder for the team. Team bonding is an important part of the game for the girls’ soccer team. “This year has to be one of my favorite teams. We are like one big family,” said Little. The goal for the team this year is to exceed last years expectations, especially advancing farther in districts. In 2014, they won the county championship and landed in districts. “Individually I want to make it to all state again,” said Little. To make the goal of winning counties and advancing in districts, communication is helpful between the girls. “We know how to help each other out on the field and we are able to communicate very well with each other which helps us out a lot,” said Nicholas. In their upcoming games, the girls’ team will face off against New Oxford, Dallastown and Spring Grove.
