Central York High School’s boys’ soccer team continues its successful season in Districts as they head into the semi-final match Tuesday, November 3.

Central York boys soccer team dominated their regular season going undefeated in league play with a 12-0 record. Jared Wagner, the starting defensive center back and a captain for the Central York boys soccer team attributes their successful league play to strong team chemistry and dedication in practice and games.

October 29, 2015 in the Hub at Central York High School Wagner said most of them have been playing together since they were in fourth or fifth grade, so they really know how to play as a team. Wagner also said about their league play that they “learned how to win when they weren’t playing as well and how to face adversity as a team.”

Going into Counties, Central York was seen as one of the strongest competitors for winning the county championship. They won their way to the county championship where they faced a tough loss to the undefeated Gettysburg High School team, 0-1 to win second place in the county. Wagner said the tough loss drove them to focus more and work harder for Districts.

Central York went into districts as the fourth seat where they dominated their first District game on October 27, against Daniel Boone High School, 6-1. Their next game was to face the fifth seed, Conestoga Valley High School on Saturday, October 31. This game was important to not only keep Central in District games but to also secure a game in the first round of States.

Central York’s starting goal keeper Trevor Holderegger said they improve everyday in practice and focus on upcoming games. He also attributes some of the team’s success to the coaching staff and their experience as a team.

Wagner said about Saturday’s game, “Our strategy is to outwork the other team in the first couple of minutes and get the ball to Michael Tolley or Pierce Miller.” Wagner also said, “As long as we play our game no one can keep up.”

On Saturday, October 31 Central York beat Conestoga Valley in overtime with a goal by Pierce Miller. Conestoga Valley scored mid-way through the first half of the game, the score remained 0-1 until a minute and a half was left on the clock in the second half. Miller shot a penalty at the top of the box tying the game up 1-1 and sending the game into overtime. Five minutes into overtime Miller scored again winning their way into the first round of States and the semi-final game of Districts.

Central is set to face Hershey High School Tuesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Northeastern High School. Hershey, now with a record of 15-5-1, beat Central Dauphin who was first seed in districts poses as tough competition for Central York. If Central defeats Hershey they will compete for the District title on Saturday, November 7 at Hershey, where their competitor is yet to be determined. Holderegger said “our strategy for our next game is to win working together and hopefully be the first Central York boys soccer team to win a district medal.”

The Central York boys soccer team’s record stands as 21-2 going into the semi-finals of Districts and the first round of States which starts in a couple of weeks.
