It seems the cross country team has had a successful season as they wrap up the year with a 16-4 record. “Our practices have definitely increased in intensity. It has given us the skills we’ve needed to conquer the tough courses we’ve encountered,” said Buzynski during a Tuesday morning interview.

Buzynski is one of the seven girls on Central’s cross country team who has qualified for the PIAA District III Tournament on October 31. “I love all of my other top seven teammates. We all just really get along and are able to motivate each other,” Buzynski said.

Senior runner Marty Rexroth has also shared his optimism for the team. “Every day I came to practice expecting to give 110 percent,” he said Friday, October 30. Despite personal goals not quite meeting his mark, Rexroth says the team has shown their strength through Brooke Buzynski’s brother lead runner, Tim Buzynski. “His fastest time is like, 17 minutes,” Rexroth said.

Before every race, Rexroth equips his Saucony light-weight shoes and Under Armour compression shorts. Rexroth says the team likes to have fun, enjoys attending the pasta parties and leading the team in their “What is your profession?” chant. Buzynski said the girls’ pre-run rituals involve saying a prayer and then breaking out in a chant before their warm-up.

Cross country coach, Randy Mumford seems to be a key part of the team’s success this year. “Our coach has always been our biggest motivator,” Buzynski said. “He constantly reminds us that it is best to first practice the run, become the run, and then forget about the run.”

Buzynski plans to run cross country in college if she has the opportunity. “I was able to overcome many obstacles that were thrown at me this season to reach my full potential. I’m really excited for the future,” Buzynski said. As for Rexroth, he said his time in high school was fun, but he has no future plans to run in college. Rexroth plans to weight train to stay in shape in the future. The two said to look out for rising super-stars, Paige Hartman, Bridget Palm and Tim Buzynski.
