Headlines cut across thousands of television sets last Friday night as the world watched in horror as yet another terrorist attack unfolded. Paris faced a devastating attack by a group known as Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the night of Nov. 13. The attacks led to 129 deaths and 352 people admitted to hospitals with injuries. The consequences of these attacks has been felt globally, as politicians are still deciding what steps need to be taken to prevent further death at the hands of this radical group of terrorists.
The attacks took place in a northern suburb of Paris, called Saint-Denis. Beginning at 9:20 p.m. there were three suicide bombings outside of the Stade de France during a football game between Germany and France. Video clips float around the internet where viewers can hear the loud explosions from inside the stadium. There were also mass shootings with many civilian casualties that took place in four different locations, including a cafe and restaurant.
The deadliest attack took place at the Bataclan Theatre during a concert. Gunmen held the concert-goers hostage, killing 89 in the theatre. Police then rushed to the scene where there was a standoff between the attackers and French officials.
These horrible attacks on France are the deadliest to their country since World War II. People from all over the world mourn over the loss of so many innocent people. Many famous landmarks were lit up in red, blue and white to represent the French flag and as a display of worldwide support toward the French people.
As of November 18, the suspected mastermind of the Paris attacks was killed in a raid by French police, however new details on the attacks continue to filter into the media each day.
