The Homecoming dance on Oct. 10 was a fun-filled night for many students and featured the talent of DJ Knowledge, who set the atmosphere for the king and queen, Mackenzie Sopko and Magnus Grimes, as they conversed with the attendees. The dance was over in one one night, but this year there is also a winter dance to attend.
The Snowcoming dance, set for Feb. 6, is sponsored by the student council. “The doors are set to open at 6:30 p.m. The theme is Winter Wonderland again, but we’re hoping to make it look a little different from last year, hopefully even better,” said senior Student Council member Faith Hatchard.
Like last year, the dance will feature Mr. Luckenbaugh, junior Carter Luckenbaugh’s father, as a DJ. Commenting on Luckenbaugh’s performance last year, senior Jonah Walston said, “He was way better than the one at homecoming because he took requests. I requested “Sandstorm” by Darude at one point and he played it.”
Compared to the Homecoming dance, Snowcoming is supposed to bemore intimate. “Snowcoming is smaller; it’s fun when you go with friends and dance around,” said Walston. “It’s student-run, so there’s more catering to the student body and you don’t feel the anxiety like at homecoming. It’s like going clubbing.”
“They could cater more food because there was virtually none at the dance and they could use fundraising to raise money for it,” said Walston.
Advertisements for Snowcoming have gone out through word-of-mouth, social media and CTV announcements are also planned to air in February. “Just using the cafeteria might not be enough because they’re advertising it more and people are proposing on Twitter. There is a wider student-body interested,” said Walston.
Snowcoming will run until 10 p.m. at Central York High School. Keep an eye on CTV and Twitter to receive any updates on the event.
