Fans can get their fill at movie theaters this year with all the reboots, sequels and adaptations being released. Fans of all kinds are going to get their fill: from comic book nerds, to video game enthusiasts, to book lovers.
Comic book movies throughout the past few years have not only been growing in popularity, but also in quantity. This year, fans have a very saturated list to look forward to. Ryan Reynolds stars as the title character in “Deadpool,” notably the first Marvel character to get an R-rated film. Another big Marvel release is, “Captain America: Civil War,” a movie in which well-known heroes are pitted against each other. DC Comics also has some big-name movies coming out: In “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Ben Affleck takes over the role of Batman to answer the heavily debated question: ‘Who would win in a fight, Batman or Superman?’ DC also has “Suicide Squad” coming to theaters in August. In this movie, you will see DC villians band together. Also, Harley Quinn will get her first on-screen appearance, played by Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto takes on the role of The Joker, who was last played on-screen by the late Heath Ledger.
Younger audiences will have plenty to look forward to in 2016 as well. June marks the release of Pixar’s “Finding Dory,” a sequel to the 2003 movie, “Finding Nemo.” Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres reprise their roles as Marlin and Dory in this underwater adventure. Disney is also introducing a new princess to their list in November; “Moana” will be the first time Disney fans get to see a Polynesian princess adventuring through the South Pacific. Another movie being released is, “The BFG,” a fantasy film based off of Roald Dahl’s book of the same name. In it, a young girl named Sophie meets the “Big Friendly Giant” who takes her on an adventure through Dream Country.
Video game fans will be blessed with a handful of movies this year based on popular games. “Angry Birds,” the popular mobile game, is getting an animated feature in May called, “The Angry Birds Movie.” Blizzard Entertainment’s “World of Warcraft” is anticipating an adaptation onto the big screen in 2016. Additionally, Michael Fassbender will be starring as Callum Lynch in “Assassin’s Creed,” in its release towards the end of 2016.
Last, but not least, both Harry Potter and Star Wars fans will be getting new movies this year. “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is set to release in November and will expand the Harry Potter universe. Eddie Redmayne plays a wizard named Newt Scamander who is a writer in a 1920’s New York City. In the film, Newt may or may not be responsible for letting loose some highly-dangerous creatures from a magically-expanded briefcase. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is the first of a collection of Star Wars spin-offs to be released, but it is not considered to be part of the new trilogy. The film will take place before Episode Four: “A New Hope,” and stars Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Felicity Jones and Forest Whitaker.
A year of many memorable films, 2016 holds promise to movie fans. Which movies will you be seeing?
