As the boys’ lacrosse season is quickly approaching, two athletes are excited and ready for it to begin. Sophomores Alex Kilgour and Kollin Vaught played varsity last season and both expect an even greater turnout from last year. “Last year, our team didn’t really help each other come together as one, but I think the seniors this year like Katon Yantek, Mason Markey and Gavin George have been doing a good job leading us,” said Kilgour. The team finished with a record of 7-9 last season, as the team was plagued with injuries; they had a total of 13 concussions from only the first two games. “One key injury from last year was Mason Markey, but now he’s back and wants to end his final season with a title,” Kilgour said. “Luckily no one is hurt from last season into this season. Gavin has a broken pinkie, but he should be good for try outs,” said Vaught. Many would say that relationships and team chemistry is are important, and Kilgour wouldn’t disagree. “Compared to last year’s team, our relationship as team is A1,” said Kilgour, of their improved team chemistry. “Once again, the captains are doing a great job getting everyone together. Whether it’s getting the freshmen ready for JV or just leading us as a team, they’re ready,” said Kilgour. How do they train and prepare? Around 5:30 every morning on Wednesdays and Fridays, the lacrosse team has a workout that consists of conditioning, offensive and defensive drills, stick skills, shooting the ball and scrimmages. After all that sweat, pain and hard work, the boys hope to have a successful season. “You can’t put limits on your goals; the more you dream, the further you will get,” said Vaught. “Obviously going 7-9 won’t do it, so we gotta keep grinding as team this season,” said Kilgour. “Winning is the key to success.” “This lacrosse season, I want to see everyone out there to support our team. I think we’re going to make a run for the money this year,” added Kilgour.
