Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring program that was founded in 1904 by Ernest Kent Coulter. For over 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has helped younger children by giving them a caring role model to help them gain the skills to succeed and thrive.

The high school students involved, called Bigs, are paired with younger students, called Littles, that may come from adverse home situations. The Big treats their Little with kindness and presents themself as a role model.

Alyssa Mauck, a two year member of the program, said, “I joined so I could make a difference in one kid’s life. I decided to go back the second year because I realized how much I really did impact their life.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a very touching, helpful and sometimes sentimental program. Many of the kids in this program really benefit from having a mentor to help them, and in many cases, the Bigs change their Little’s lives for the better. If this sounds appealing, know that you could be that person to make the change.
