Candy Making Seminar

Every Tuesday and Wednesday during the spring semester in room 408 or the culinary lab, Miss Amanda Fisher, a family science teacher, hosts a candy making seminar. She offered this seminar to Central York High School students of all grade levels who held a common interest in candy making.

Miss Fisher began this seminar because of her personal passion for candy making. She started making candy while in high school and as she advanced to college, candy making became an easy way for her to make money. Her side business of eight years is called Mandie’s Candies and can be easily contacted: https://af1309.wixsite.com/mandiescandies

Over the duration of the seminar, students are working with chocolate and advancing their skills to be able to make cooked candy like fudge. This candy is used for fundraisers, towards Mini-THON and competitions within the seminar. In the most recent competition, "Create Your Own Candy Bar," Mary Beth Ryer, Kayli Stambaugh, Jaclyn Brashears and Sarah Martin were the winners with their "CCC" (cookies, caramel and chocolate) bar.

Miss Fisher plans to host this seminar again as long as students remain interested in making candy. So many people were interested in joining the seminar the first semester that she had to turn people away. She thought that the best way to give everyone the chance to share her passion was through making the seminar available for them in the future.
