Reach

On April 25, 26 and 27, Reach will be performed in CYHS’ black box theater at 6:30 p.m. The play was originally created by Central’s very own Mr. Nick Curry and Mr. Ben Hodge. The two first began to collaborate on the idea in 2006 when the TV show “Boston Public” inspired them.

Since then, Reach has been performed multiple times in locations like the York Little Theatre, the Strand-Capitol and even at the National Federation of Families Conference in Washington D.C.

The show tells the story of twelve 21st century teenagers going through things that aren’t typically talked about including self harm, drug addiction and mental health issues. The monologues come from the stories of students that Mr. Hodge taught in 2006.

Mr. Curry and Mr. Hodge’s goal is to empower the public so that for those who are struggling, they can find the help that they need. To further this effort, a mental health fair will be set up outside of the theater after the conclusion of the show. For those that feel inclined, brochures or pamphlets will be available at the stands with specialists to talk them through the steps of finding help.

In addition, leading up until the April shows, helpful flex sessions will be provided to help students relieve stress and improve their mental health. Dance therapy with choreographer Donna Lynch, yoga classes with Mrs. Eisenbeil and creative journaling with Mrs. Unger are three of the activities that will be available to the student body.
